October 22, 2019 In this blog, we are going to look into the need to do IELTS and know all about it…
WHY IELTS???
Over 2000 universities and also scores of employers from Australia, New Zealand, Canada, the UK, and the USA take the IELTS into consideration. If you’re looking to work, study or live abroad then taking an IELTS test can help you make that dream come true.
Interested to know how to get started with your IELTS preparation? Here are a few pointers for you…
Know. It. All.
IELTS offers you a choice of two test versions to meet your needs. IELTS Academic measures English language proficiency needed for an academic, higher learning environment while the IELTS General Training measures a test taker’s proficiency in a practical, everyday context.
You can also choose between paper-based or computer-delivered. Both test formats will take place at one of the official test centres.
Now, lets see what all sections does IELTS comprises of ????
The IELTS test is divided into four modules that will test your listening, reading, writing, and speaking skills.
Now, lets see what all sections does IELTS comprises of ????
The IELTS test is divided into four modules that will test your listening, reading, writing, and speaking skills.
- Listening: This 30 minute-module has four sections and will basically have you listening to an audio recording and have you answer questions from a booklet.
- Reading: This 60 minute-module comprises 40 questions that will test you on a wide range of reading skills including reading for main ideas, skimming, reading for detail, and understanding the logical argument. It is divided into two versions: the academic and general training versions.
- Writing: This 60 minute-module too has two versions: academic and general training. The academic comprises two tasks, in short — one: describing a chart or a diagram; two: writing an essay in response to a problem or argument. The general training also comprises two tasks – 1) writing a letter in response to a situation; 2) writing an essay in response to a problem or argument (this one may be a bit more personal than the first one).
Each module will fetch you a certain band score as per your performance. You will be awarded an IELTS band score from 0-9 for each test section, which reflects your proficiency in English.
Your TRF shows a score for each of the four skills (Listening, Reading, Writing and Speaking), as well as an overall band score. You can score whole band scores (for example 5.0, 6.0, 7.0) or half band scores (e.g. 5.5, 6.5, 7.5) in each section of the test. This score will be valid for a period of two years.
This was all about the IELTS test.
In the upcoming blog, we will learn how to do READING section in detail.
